The Path to your Dreams, may take you places...
You've never Imagined.

Mark Bowdidge, from Queensland, Australia certainly boosted the panel's adrenalin with this elegant and beautifully presented catamaran, the only multihull to make the Top Ten and winning the Multihull division.
Its mission, Bowdidge states, is to combine the comfort and safety of a cruising yacht with the potential to take line honors in major races.
"I find this design the most exciting of the group," wrote Bruce King. "It exudes speed and efficiency. The smaller visual mass of the central pod compared to the more usual massive cabin structure of mainstream cruising catamarans is a real aesthetic plus."
Johnstone ( Island Packet yachts), too, was enthusiastic, writing "If I were going long-distance cruising on a catamaran, the Oceansky is as good as any I have seen afloat."
There's no question the boat would be fast, but that speed comes with the cost of the high-tech construction materials and methods needed to achieve the target weight and with a significant sacrifice in cruising amenities.
"Its compact central area clearly anticipates the safety concerns of traveling at high speed in large seas," Johnstone commented.
Overall, the judges view considered that this boat would be exciting to race and cruise, in the hands of the right crew.

The Oceansky 57
Catamaran Designs
Catamaran Designs

The OCEANSKY 57 is a high performance sailing catamaran, incorporating a total new approach. Its principle function is a pleasure yacht capable of fast ocean passages and ocean racing.
This Design focuses on the comfort and safety of a cruising yacht, yet with the speed potential of line honours in major yacht races.
Based on solid design principles ,the OCEANSKY 57 in race mode, must be able to withstand the loads of charging to windward or a reach, across the wave tops at 19 knots plus. Or, one can simply throttle off, get into cruise mode and enjoy relaxing with family and friends in relative luxury, either on the cockpit lounge or, just lay about on the front or side trampolines watching the miles click by.
Either way, it doesn't matter. The OceanSky 57, with its distinctive style and form, produces a boat with an aggressive stance and form evoking images of speed.

Fatigue can become an issue in long ocean passages or racing, so safety at sea relies on efficient crew work and environment. The fluid lines and distinctive styling of the OCEANSKY 57, complemented by the uncluttered wide flat decks and a clean rig and deck hardware results in easy boat handling in all types of sea conditions.
Also with the wide separation of the slender hulls and high shoulders of the crossbeams, it allows for greater stability and performance, minimising wave impact on the cross structure resulting in greater day runs in ease.
Overall, the hull shape and accommodation layout has been designed to minimise crew fatigue and motion sickness. The cockpit provides a safe environment to operate the boat and allows access to and from the accommodation quarters. In the event of damage at sea, multiple watertight compartments ensure that the vessel will not sink, providing a safe platform and, doubling as a safety capsule. The OCEANSKY 57 captures a new world class of yacht that will appeal to clients in the ocean cruiser or racer market.

The centrally located cockpit and accommodations incorporate rolled edged furniture and features, giving a sense of space and easy living. With full size berths, galley, shower, toilet facilities and saloon to cater for the family's needs, the OCEANSKY 57 provides family and overall crew efficiency and comfort required for the long ocean passages.
The hulls, although providing the necessary water and fuel storage, also provide long term storage compartments for consumables such as food for the long ocean voyaging, which is considerable for this style of vessel.

        STYLING AND ERGONOMICS

              INOVATIVE FEATURES

STRUCTURAL ARRANGEMENT

The new concept in structural layout results in a lighter, stiffer, and more aerodynamic structure.

HULL SHAPE:
The hull incorporates a knuckle above the waterline for improved handling at sea, increased buoyancy and dryer boat.

BEAM and POD DESIGN:
In the event of inversion, the beams and pod are designed to support the weight of the boat allowing the pod to double as a safety capsule.
